mechanical life, mechanical death - excerpt...
Her bright eyes shattered and her head crumpled as she ploughed through the tight gap. The two that she hit spun almost ninety degrees, their tires squealed in protest. The other two attempted to move out of the way one of them failed as he was hemmed in between a wall and one of his brothers. The other only just avoided the collision but he took awhile in taking up the chase of their almost blind prey.
She was amazed at her luck in breaking through the blockade, but her once polished and shining body was now buckled and bruised. Her insides were struggling too as they churned and gurgled, spilling black fluid onto the road. Her speed was now less and the pack quickly approached within ramming distance. Each time they struck her she slid and swerved across the highway. Seeming to laugh each time she narrowly avoided crashing. There was still some fight left in her though and she struck back as hard as she received.

I can't drive, I have no real intention to even learn to drive. Although I have been hit by a car, while I was crossing a Zebra crossing. I slid up the bonnet as it hit me, then slid back down, luckily I only received bruising. But I do know a couple of people who have been seriously injured by cars.
Oh yeah and I've hit a car. While riding a mountain bike an idiot in a Jaguar quickly pulled out of his drive, without looking, and I slammed into his side. The driver was more worried about his cars paintwork than he was about anything else. Which was comforting to know. Those are probably the main reasons why I'm not the greastest fan of cars.
So why write a story about cars? You may ask.
Well I was sitting watching one of those many police chase's caught on camera shows. When it struck me how simillar a police chase is to the way a pack of wolves hunt, with how the wolves/police begin the chase cautiously then as they weaken their "prey" the wolves/police viciously close in for the kill.
It wasn't just this idea that I used in my story there is also the, what if cars were living organisms? Which I think is how some people seem to view their cars, with the way they treat them.
There are a couple of other ideas I had which I used as inspiration, but I don't like giving up too many of the thoughts I have swirling through my mind. Anyway it would take too long and I'd probably start to ramble on.

Sean Rickards been a big fan of horror for as long as I can remember. It began with films and later progressed to books and now I try write it. I just love the idea of scaring and creeping people out. Its not just attempting to invoke fear that I love but the whole process of taking something from everyday life and mutating it into a different beast. I'm really just at beginner in the fine art and I'm still looking for the style that suits me best, but I'm hooked none the less and only death can stop me now.
